Suppliers in China and Hong Kong who have never missed a shipment are telling vendors they don't know when they'll be able to get product in. Last week I would have told you that was holiday noise. I did tell people that.

Someone in the Discord asked if the rumors about China shipping were real, and I said relax, it's the holiday. China shuts down for Mid-Autumn at the end of September and again for National Day the first week of October. Factories go quiet, packages sit for two or three weeks, and every year the peptide world acts like the sky is falling. Then it clears and everyone forgets. I've watched it happen enough times that I didn't think twice.

Then I started hearing things.

Running this network means I hear from the supply side before it hits Reddit, and what's coming out of China and Hong Kong right now is not the usual holiday talk. The suppliers every serious vendor leans on, the ones that have never had a package held, are saying they don't know. That's a different sentence than "give it three weeks."

Same story from the compounding pharmacies in the States, the ones that mix GLP-1 scripts to order for clinics. Running low.

That's when the holiday explanation died. A Chinese factory taking a week off does not make a pharmacy in the States run short. Something else is going on, and it's been going on for a while.

The holiday is real. It's just small.

Let me get the dates right so nobody can say I'm ignoring them. Mid-Autumn runs September 25 to 27. National Day runs October 1 to 7. Freight companies expect factories to wind down the week before and work through a backlog for two or three weeks after. That's a normal year, and a normal year is annoying but survivable.

If that were the whole story, your vendor would say "order by the 20th and expect it in November." A vendor who says they don't know is telling you the problem sits upstream of the holiday. The holiday is about to land on top of something that was already broken.

Three doors closed in nine months

Here's the part nobody selling you a stock-up is showing you. The squeeze didn't start this month. It started in December, and it's been tightening one door at a time.

Timeline of the five events squeezing GLP-1 peptide supply, December 2025 through October 2026

December. The FDA put out Import Alert 66-80. Every GLP-1 bulk substance coming into the US, meaning the raw powder before anyone turns it into a vial or a script, now gets held at the border automatically unless it ships from one of 27 approved factories. Sixteen of those 27 are in China. That list is the entire legal supply for every compounding pharmacy in the country. If a pharmacy's supplier isn't on it, the product sits at the border and the pharmacy runs low.

April. Customs in Cincinnati opened up 300 master cartons from China and found about 5,000 pre-labeled peptide shipments inside. Retatrutide, semaglutide, tirzepatide, the whole GLP menu, listed as something else on the customs paperwork to slip through. That was the grey market route around the December rule, and Customs announced the bust, which means they're looking for it now. Science.bio closed in January. Peptide Sciences, reportedly doing around seven million a month, closed in March.

May. The FDA caught one of the 27 approved Chinese factories buying semaglutide from an unapproved source and putting its own label on it. So even the legal pipe has people cheating inside it, and the FDA is now checking.

August. Eli Lilly filed six lawsuits against retatrutide sellers. Research-only vendors, a med spa, a compounding pharmacy. Retatrutide isn't even approved yet, it's still in the last round of human trials, and Lilly is already suing people over it. From what I see, retatrutide is 40 to 50 percent of sales for a lot of vendors in this space. Lilly knows that too.

December, April, May, August. Then a holiday in October. Four things stacked on the same pipe.

Why legit and grey are dry at the same time

Here's my read, and I'll tell you up front it's a read. The legit side and the grey side are drinking from the same pipe.

The compounding pharmacy buying legal API and the overseas vendor selling research vials are both pulling from a small group of Chinese factories. Since December that group is legally 16 factories wide. The route around it got a lot more expensive in April. Now those same 16 factories close for a week at the same time, with a slowdown before and a backlog after.

That's why suppliers who have never missed can't give anyone a date right now. They're waiting on the same factories the pharmacies are waiting on. A tight pipe with a holiday in it looks exactly like a closed one for about a month. And when it reopens, whatever clears the border first goes to whoever ordered earliest and paid the most. That's just how supply works when there's less of it than people want.

What the vendors in the network did about it

The vendors inside the Biohacker Network saw this coming. Their supply is stocked into next year and they've lined up backup sources outside the usual route. As long as that holds, network members will still have somewhere to go when other sites are showing out of stock on everything with a GLP in the name.

Nothing in this space is guaranteed. Next week somebody's domain gets suspended, somebody's page gets nuked, that's the business and it's why I keep telling you to own your own supply. But I'd rather buy from someone who planned for this in the summer than someone who's scrambling in October.

What you should do

Figure out your runway now. Count what you have, count what you go through in a month, and know how many months that is. If the number is under four, you're going to be shopping in the worst window of the year.

Don't panic-buy from a random site in October. When everything's dry, the sites that still have stock are either the ones that planned or the ones that don't care where it came from. May's FDA case is what the second kind looks like. Relabeled product from an unapproved source, sold by a factory that was on the approved list. If a factory on the list will do that, a random storefront will do worse.

And the New Year's thing. I already stocked up on a multi-year supply of my favorite GLP product, and I did it because I could read the calendar. December rule, April seizure, August lawsuits, October holiday. If you have a weight loss goal for 2027, the supply decision is a September decision.

Every January the new year new me crowd shows up and the shelves are full. This year they're going to show up to a lot of out of stock pages, and the vendors will blame the holiday, because most vendors don't think about China's calendar until their own shipment doesn't land. That includes the brand you buy from.

So get ahead of it. Buy enough of what you already run to cover two or three months, then sit back and watch how this actually plays out instead of refreshing a product page in November. Do the math on your runway this week.

P.S. If your vendor tells you it's just the holiday, ask them one question. Is their supplier on the FDA's list of 27 approved factories? If they don't know what you're talking about, that's your answer. Hit reply and tell me what they say.
